Excellent fishing prospects for July

The first large summer flood for some time suggests excellent prospects for the week beginning 14th July

June 2008

June saw some excellent brown trout and sea trout fishing. Several good salmon were also caught. Tony Gent had one at Brightlea on the 4th and two days later Charlie Inniss accounted for one salmon and three sea trout to 6lbs on Brimblecombe (in the Run and at the Bump). Reg Lawton landed two salmon (7lb and 6lb) at Madeira. Dedicated night time sea trout fishers were rewarded with some very productive outings. between the 21st and 26th one Half Moon party caught 69 fish to 6 1/2 lb at beam, Brimblecombe and Junction. Several anglers enjoyed days of double figure brown trout fishing and John Hampshire took four fish to 2lb near Sheepwash bridge. End of the month running totals from the Half Moon were 14 salmon, 102 sea trout and 187 brown trout.

May 2008

By the end of May running totals for the season from the Half Moon reports were 9 Salmon, 16 sea trout, and 102 brown trout. Notable catches included Keith Knight’s 7lb sea trout from the Sycamore Pool at Brightlea, a similar sized fish for Paddy Gillies further upstream and superb 10lb sea trout for Paul Carter. There was excellent brown trout fishing with fish of up to 3lb (Junction Pool) on both wet and dry fly.
