The start of another season is only three weeks away. I have had reports of large salmon moving upstream at Bideford as early as mid-January and last week a seal was seen devouring a salmon just below Bideford Bridge: maybe a returning kelt or maybe one of this year's springers!! We have survived the cold snap with the river almost completely frozen for several days. We managed to keep the hatchery insulated: all the eggs are now eyed and we have lost less than 100, so after our early problems all is progressing well and with some luck we will be able to stock out about 13,500 swim-up fry in early April. The AGM of the Torridge Fishery Association willbe held in early March at The Half Moon, Sheepwash and I will confirm the date asap. Tight lines. Charles.
