The Association

The River Torridge Fishery Association was set up in 1979 and now has over 100 members who are not only owners of fishing rights and anglers, but also many who are interested in maintaining and improving the wellbeing of the beautiful River Torridge. Lord Clinton has been the President ever since the start and Charles Inniss has been Secretary since day one. The current Chairman is Paul Ashworth, and Steve Phelps is the Vice-Chairman. They are supported by ten very active committee members.

The highlight of the year the Annual Dinner held in October at the Half Moon Inn Sheepwash. Always attended by over 40 members and guests, it is a chance to reminisce on the season just past, and raises valuable funds for our conservation projects.

The Aims of the Association:

  • To restore fish stocks to previous levels of abundance
  • Encourage anglers to adopt a voluntary code of conduct to help safeguard fish stocks
  • Support river habitat enhancement projects
  • Work in close partnership with the Environment Agency, The South West Rivers Association, The Westcountry Rivers Trust and The Devon Wildlife Trust.
