We cannot complain about a lack of water in 2023. Apart from a hot dry spell in June, the fishing season was characterised by changeable weather with regular spells of heavy rain. Salmon were seen running the weir at Beam in early March and the first salmon of the season was caught in the Junction Pool at Okement Foot in mid-April. In May, salmon were caught on the beats at Beam, Little Warham and Madeira. During the summer months, most of the salmon and sea trout were caught on the middle river beats, but overall the numbers of migratory fish were disappointing. There was some excellent brown trout fishing in May and June with several trout over 2lbs being caught.
